ELDERHOSTEL SKI PROGRAM #7573RJ

Ski in/Ski out at the Lodge at Mountain Village, Park City, Utah

This is an Elderhostel ski program. They make all land arrangements. You will have to register through Elderhostel as explained below. Elderhostel allows participants to invite any adult companion to attend this program with them even if they do not meet the 55 year-old age requirement.

Ski the best of the Rocky Mountains! Park City gets more than 350” of snow annually and is ranked as one of the top ski destinations in this country, with 3,300 acres, 14 lifts, 100 trails, and more than 3,000 vertical feet. Experience champagne powder and great grooming. Altitude will vary from 7,000 to 10,000 feet. There are many flights each day to Salt Lake City. It is then a 45-minute van ride to the resort.

The Program includes:

--Lodging: Six nights lodging in a studio with queen drop-down Murphy bed, gas fireplace, hair dryer, cable TV, and coffee maker, in a condominium located right at the base of Park City Mountain Resort.

--All Meals: Breakfast, lunch, and dinner are served in the conference room just steps away from the slopes. All meals are included.

--Lift Pass: Five out of seven-day pass, which covers the trip’s Monday through Friday skiing schedule.

--Ski Lessons: Two three-hour ski lessons.

--Stretch Class: Easy yoga-based exercise every morning.

--Lectures: Two evenings are devoted to academic lectures, such as avalanche control and mountain geology. One evening consists of the “Off Hill” ski clinic, which includes watching videos of those who took ski lessons on their final run.

--Travel Assistance and Insurance Plan: All Elderhostel participants are covered.

All classes and meals are at the Lodge at Mountain Village.

Lodging:

The standard rooms are in buildings adjacent to the Mountain Lodge, which are about a 50-yard walk from the Lodge. There may be some rooms available in the Main Lodge. If so, Elderhostel notifies participants and the upgrade fee is paid directly to the Lodge. All facilities are ski in/ski out.

General Lodge Amenities include;

*Indoor and Outdoor Pool and Hot Tub

*Sauna, Steam Room, Fitness Center

*Guest Laundry

Price: $1394.00 for above (paid to Elderhostel)

Additional Costs:

Airfare is not included. You must make your own air arrangements. We were unable to get group air at a reasonable cost. We are trying to coordinate flights. The Salt Lake City Airport is located only 40 minutes from Park City and is served by all major airlines. This is a good opportunity to use your miles.

Vans to and from the resort are not included. Elderhostel has an arrangement with Park City Transportation for approximately $50 round trip. Call 1-800-637-3803 in advance to make your personal arrangements. They are located next to the baggage claim at the Salt Lake City Airport and are efficient.

Pre and post trip parties . There will be a fee at the door.

Optional: One evening (Thursday) is a free evening with optional activities offered, such as attending a play at the Egyptian Theater in Park City or taking a bus trip to Salt Lake City to attend a Mormon Tabernacle Choir rehearsal. There also will be an optional trip to Deer Valley to ski on Thursday.

Registration for Land Arrangements with Elderhostel

All participants must sign up with Elderhostel on their own. --Registration is open now. The trip is first-come, first served. There will be other people besides PVSers on the trip. Last year there were 55 attendees and a waiting list. If you are interested in the trip, please call Elderhostel 1-800-454-5768 or visit their web site: http://elderhostel.org. The program number is 7573RJ and listed under winter sports. You will be required to send a $100 deposit to reserve your space and then they will bill you in December. Tell Elderhostel that you are part of the PVS ski group.

Although you must make your own air and van arrangements, once you get to the resort, everything is taken care of. We are coordinating air, so let Rosemary know when you sign up and I will send a copy of flights others are taking so you can try to connect. We will have a pre and post trip party and will charge a fee for those who attend.

Trip Leaders: Rosemary Schwartzbard and Ellie Thayer

Both leaders have attended this program and they will work with Gary and Sandy Nielson, who run the Elderhostel Utah Program, to coordinate the PVS component of this trip.
